Family Self-Sufficiency Program
The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program helps families transform goals into reality by working to create a road to success. FSS is a voluntary program, open to most Housing Choice Voucher Program and Public Housing residents receiving housing assistance. We will support you in setting and achieving your goals and refer you to other services as needed such as childcare, education, transportation, job training, substance use treatment, consumer credit counseling, utility assistance and other needed services.
Your Family Self-Sufficiency Program Service Coordinator will provide resources to help you:
- Complete your education goals
- Get a better paying job
- Increase your income
- Increase your credit score
- Create a savings (escrow) account
- Apply your savings to the down payment of a home of your own

*Note: Persons in the following AMHA programs are not eligible for FSS program: HCVP Mod Rehab contracts and Targeted Funding Programs such as Shelter Plus Care Scattered Sites Local Housing Authority (LHA) properties such as Hilltop House, Orchard Park/Thornton Terrace, Akron 73 (Darrow/Copley Rd.), Eastland Woods & Edgewood Village Residents.
