Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP)

Overview

The HCVP offers participants freedom of choice in finding a suitable, privately owned housing unit. Vouchers provide a tenant-based subsidy, so a participant is able to move and maintain their voucher assistance, either within Summit County or to another jurisdiction.

The HCVP is aimed at assisting very low-income households (those with income at or below 30% of the area median income) with rental assistance. The household receives a housing voucher and then is able to use it at a unit that they find and are interested in renting. The unit selected must meet AMHA- and HUD-approved Housing Quality Standards (HQS) and reasonable rent requirements. Once housed, the participant pays a portion of their income towards rent and/or utilities and complies with income examination and HQS requirements.

AMHA also operates a site-based Mod Rehab program, a Shelter Plus Care Program, and a Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program.
